It's a pity you didn't know when you started your game of murder that I was playing too.

Happy Halloween!  And what would the creepiest day of the year be without the king of horror: Vincent Price!

Last of the Horror Videos

Last of the Horror Videos

“Late again.  Bud, can’t you tell time?”

Well, I might not be able to keep track of the time, but I bring you the last of this month’s horror music videos, anyway!  This week’s video is Silence by Evil Spider (Russian language.  I have not checked the links on this site, so peruse at your own risk).

Why is this video awesome?

Silent Hill is my favorite video game series (that doesn’t involve jumping on people’s heads or giving A to B in order to get C to give to D, anyway), but there is a surprising dearth of good music videos for it.  This is definitely the best.  The editing is well done and follows the music.  This Marilyn Manson song from Resident Evil lends itself very well to Silent Hill.  And I love the part in the middle, when the song cuts out and is replaced by sound effects from the Silent Hill games.

What could have been done better?

The scene choices are all very creepy, but even the shortest scenes were obviously chosen for their symbolic meanings in the games’ plotlines.  While fans of the games will appreciate the invoked emotions of these scenes, to someone who is unfamiliar with the games, while it is vaguely creepy (and some of the imagery is downright disturbing, even without knowing the story), most of this will make absolutely no sense.   Normally, I’d say an approach closer to storytelling would be preferable, but I’m such a devotee to the games, instead I’m gonna say that if you’re unfamiliar with this one, search “Let’s Play Silent Hill” on Youtube.

I hope you enjoyed the music video!  Download it.

Because the Asians know scary…

Because the Asians know scary...

Welcome to Friday!  I’m actually sending this to you from the past, because I will be busy at Yaoi-Con on Friday… and the hotel doesn’t have free Wi-Fi.  Boo!  But I’ve got a great music video for you this week, so hopefully you’ll forgive the internet time traveling.  This week’s video is Asian Scary Movies MV (how’s that for naming originality?) by Mai.

Why is this video awesome?

Asian horror movies scare the crap out of me…  After watching Ju-On, I slept with the light on for a whole week.  But although they do have a music video-creating audience, the MVs don’t tend to be very well edited, on the whole.  This video is the exception.  The scenes follow the flow of the music and the “dirty” effect over the whole thing works well.  And the song, along with the scenes, is creepy as hell.

What could have been done better?

This could be a minus, but this music video doesn’t use scenes from either Ringu or Ju-On, probably the most well-known Japanese horror movies.  However, although they are possibly the scariest movies I’ve ever seen, they also tend to be far overused.  And you can only see the bit where she climbs out of that well so many times before you get bored with it.

I hope you enjoyed the music video!

Feel Like a Monster

Feel Like a Monster

Welcome to Friday!  This week’s music video features one of my favorite horror animes: Hellsing.  So for your viewing pleasure, here is Monsters of Hellsing by Steel.

http://youtu.be/xbCxCwvHqy0

Why is this video awesome?

In my search for horror music videos this month, I’ve come across this song A LOT.  However, this is the first video that not only followed the beat and energy of the song, but also picked scenes that matched the lyrics.  There’s a lot of really neat editing for some of these scenes, as well.  The scene at 2:13 particularly impressed me.

What could have been done better?

While the editing kept up with the pace of the song, after a while it starts to feel a little too manic.  And the flashes of white matching the beat are a bit seizure-inducing.  For my preference, the video could have done without the white flashes.

Hope you enjoyed the music video!

It’s a cruel world…

It's a cruel world...

Okay, I’m a little late, but I say it’s still Friday until I go to bed for the night!  This week’s video is Disney Villains – Cruel World by Crunchy Cookie!

Why is this video awesome?

Since I did an anime video last week, I really wanted to feature a Disney music video today.  And while there are better edited videos out there, this was the only one I could find that was genuinely creepy.  Most “scary” Disney music videos simply use the villains without picking scenes that are actually scary, as if just having a bad guy on screen is enough (and there are lots of disturbing images in Disney, so I have NO idea why this is).  Crunchy Cookie picked the perfect song and matched it up well with villain scenes.

What could have been done better?

By the vid author’s own account this was a quick video and it shows.  The editing is a little sloppy.  There are several places where the aspect ratio of the image changes.  That’s a pet peeve of mine…  And I hate the image effects on the word “free” starting at 0:21.  If just a little bit more time had been taken to clean it up, this could have been one of the best Disney Villain music videos out there.

I hope you enjoyed the video!
