He'll Find You...

Nuriko and I are in Sacramento today and tomorrow for the body cast showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Repo! The Genetic Opera.  We’re definitely not Rocky virgins, but this is our first time seeing a live cast in a theater (our local showings have always been either in the park or in event centers) AND our first time seeing the full body cast for Repo!  And I’m so super excited that I can’t get enough Repo!  So, this week’s video is Spooky by mrRUTTO1.

We have a Hulk. So there.

We have a Hulk. So there.

This week’s music video is from everybody’s favorite new movie, The Avengers.  So, for your viewing pleasure, here’s Burn It to the Ground by TheNewPietroZaniniClip.

Why is this music video awesome?

I have high standards for action music videos.  All too often, makers fall into the trap of not pacing their scenes to match with the energy of the music.  I am glad to say, this video totally does NOT have that problem!  The editing is fantastic and maintains the high energy without.  Also, quite a few of the scenes have had little edits done to them in order to fit the beat of the song.  Plus, the footage chosen really highlights how awesome the Avengers are.

What could have been done better?

It seems like a few of the scenes were chosen just for pacing, rather than appropriateness for the lyrics.  In particular, I’m not sure why Hulk wasn’t chosen for the “batshit crazy” line, rather than Thor.  Also, despite the rest of the pacing being pretty much perfect, the scene at 1:28 goes on for FAR too long and doesn’t fit the progression of the song.

Hope you enjoyed the video!

Ollo!

Ollo!

Welcome to music video Friday!  This week’s treat is “Sexy and I Know It” by Tabitha78.

Why is this video awesome?

While the scene choice and pacing of this music video is awesome, what really makes it stands out is how it showcases the source material.  The humor from both the Megamind movie and the LMFAO music are definitely used to their full extent.  It’s a great advertiser for the movie.  This video was what convinced me to give Megamind a try, as I had previously dismissed it as being too juvenile from the previews.  And boy, I was wrong and this music video was right.  If you haven’t seen Megamind, go now and Netflix it, Redbox it, whatever.  Just go!

What could have been done better?

A couple of the scenes have been slowed down, such as at 0:26.  I’m not a huge fan of this effect here, especially since the scenes are so short.  Other than that, this video is pure gold!

Hope you enjoyed the music video!

A week late and a dollar short…

A week late and a dollar short...

Well, Fanime ate last week’s music video!  So, here is the video I intended to showcase last week and the last of the crossover music videos.  And this one is a freakin’ classic –  Tainted Donuts by E-ko!

Why is this video awesome?

Tainted Donuts premiered at AnimeExpo 2001, my second con ever.  Yes, read that sentence again.  2001.  This video is over a decade old, made during a time when amv makers had either two VCRs or a lot of very expensive equipment.  And yet, it still stands up well to the music videos made today.  Almost every scene has been either spliced between the two source materials (Cowboy Beebop and Trigun) or has had donuts added.  The subtitles in the beginning are a great touch!  Almost everything about this video makes the viewer think that it came from just one source.  And the pacing of the editing works wonderfully with the music in both the slower and action scenes.  Plus, the very last scene…  Unf!

What could have been done better?

I’m sure if this had been made today, some of the scene splicing could have been cleaned up a tiny bit, although the only scene that really needs it is the one at 1:37.  And perhaps the lipsyncing could have been tighter.  But really, this video is freaking amazing.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s music video!  Download it at AnimeMusicVideos.org (Members only).

What do you want from me?

What do you want from me?

Well, Fanime is just around the corner and I’m sewing my little fingers off, so let’s get right into Music Video Friday, shall we?  This week’s video is “Mocha Chino & Omar – What Do You Want From Me” by Shade.

Why is this video awesome?

This crossover doesn’t rely on the painstaking editing to make two characters from different animations show up in the same frames (for most of it, there is some of this technique used), but the editing is still fantastic.  The source movies are two totally different styles and a couple of decades apart (so Rock And Rule doesn’t look nearly as polished as either of the Goofy Movies), but Shade made them fit together with clever filtering of the backgrounds.

What could have been done better?

There is only one brief scene that spoils the illusion that these characters all came from the same source material.  At 1:15 Mocha blurs in places.  It’s probably to remove something that didn’t “fit” with the scene, but the blurring is pretty obvious.  Maybe other footage of Mocha would have worked better in that spot if it could be done cleanly.

Hope you enjoyed the video!  I’m going back to sewing!

This week’s video is one of my favorites!  But it’s definitely NSFW or young, impressionable minds, so I’ve placed it behind the cut.  If you don’t mind some language and imagery (and are not at work), click the link below and follow me to awesomeness…

Heartbreaker

Heartbreaker

Welcome back to music video Fridays!  So, our first music video for cross-over month is one of my absolute favorites – Heartbreaker by rotem270691.

Why is this video awesome?

The editing on this video is just superb.  The video maker took six completely unrelated animated movies, with totally different styles, and put them together so well that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think they were from the same movie.  The relationship choices are a little wacky (I certainly would never have thought of ANY of them), but this video makes them WORK.  Anya and Marina was especially inspired, I think.  And I absolutely love that Megara is used for the “I won’t be coming back alive” part.

What could have been done better?

You… got me on this one.  I’d have to stretch hard to come up with any constructive critique.  The only thing I can say is that sometimes one of the characters in a few of the scenes looks fuzzy, while the other looks in-focus with the scene.  However, this could be totally due to the quality of the source footage.  And that’s crazy nit-picking.

I hope you enjoyed the video!

Black Friday!

Black Friday!

I hope all of you Americans out there enjoyed your Thanksgiving… and didn’t get trampled during Black Friday shopping.  I went into Jo-Ann’s Fabrics, thinking it was relatively safe, but there were more people in there than I’d ever seen before.  And their sales weren’t even that great…  Anyway, enough rambling, on to the music video!  This week, we have Here’s Where the Story Ends by Michelle.

Why is this video awesome?

This is another one of my favorite Sherlock Holmes videos.  It’s very obvious with this one that the author spent a lot of time making sure that her scene choices matched the lyrics AND the pacing of the song.  This is refreshing to see in a music video with live action footage.  I also love the references to Reichenbach during the repetitions of the “Here’s where the story ends” lyric.

What could have been done better?

The only real down side to this video is that it really requires some familiarity with the Granada series, although anyone who’d read the stories could probably figure out which scene represents what.  The non-Holmes-fan would be missing a lot here.  However, I’ve gotta say, that like the Silent Hill video I posted earlier, WATCH THE GRANADA SERIES.  It’s on Netflix, although you can also find full episodes on Youtube.

I hope you enjoyed the music video!

Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked

Ain't No Rest for the Wicked

This Friday, I wanted to post a video that I saw at Yaoi-con… only to discover that putting Cowboy Bebop to “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” is a somewhat popular pastime, because I went through quite a few AMVs looking for it.  But, what I found was better!  So this week’s featured music video is Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked by CMarti70546.

Why is this video awesome?

Of all the Cowboy Bebop AMVs done to this song, this one had the best scene choice, by far.  I particularly like the montage of scenes during the last repetition of the chorus.  There’s also not required to have seen Cowboy Bebop in order to follow along, here.  This one also makes an attempt to lipsync, although that’s not one of the stronger aspects of this video.

What could have been done better?

The song quality is not very good and the video quality in several scenes is pretty pixelated.  Also, although the overall scene choice was great here, some of the other videos made use of the funnier scenes that this one passed up.

I hope you enjoyed the music video!

Hey look! A Friday I’m actually awake for!

Hey look! A Friday I'm actually awake for!

No, we aren’t caught in a Groundhog Day-like loop of forever Thursdays…  I just forgot last week and spent the evening sleeping instead of posting a music video.  So, to make up for it, I bring you your weekly dose of wrong.  This week’s video is Mark It Up by Crunchy Cookie.

Why is this video awesome?

First, songs from Repo: The Genetic Opera are always awesome.  Setting them to cute woodland creatures is doubly awesome.  Round that out with superb scene choices and above-average lip synching and you have a video that I couldn’t NOT feature.  I especially love the little bit at 01:26.  *snerk*

What could be done better?

Like the other video by Crunchy Cookie that I featured, while the scene choice here is fantastic, the editing is sloppy.  The video ratio changes several times in less than two minutes.  It’s mind boggling, considering all the work that had to go into getting the timing right, that the vid author didn’t take a little more time in making sure that the scenes were all the same size.

I hope you enjoyed the music video!
